This medication has anxiolytic, sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant action central. The mechanism of action is associated with increased inhibitory effect of GABA in the central nervous system by increasing the sensitivity of the GABA-receptor mediator by stimulating benzodiazepine receptors. Pharmacokinetics After oral administration Chlordiazepoxide Sandoz is almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. After IM administration the absorption is slow. The plasma protein binding is high - about 96%. Chlordiazepoxide crosses the blood-brain barrier, excreted in breast milk and crosses the placental barrier. T1/2 of this drug is variable and is 5-30 hours, T1/2 of the main active metabolite (desmethyldiazepam) is a few days. Chlordiazepoxide Sandoz is excreted in the urine in unchanged form and as conjugated metabolites. Why is Chlordiazepoxide Sandoz prescribed? Neuroses, insomnia, nervous tension, anxiety, irritability, reactive depression, withdrawal syndrome, convulsive state, or threat thereof, of NDC, menopausal syndrome, premenstrual tension, in preparation for operations. Dosage and administration For oral administration of Chlordiazepoxide Sandoz the dose for adults is 5-10 mg 2-4 times / day.
