Licab indications The medicine is used in treating mania and hypomania or in patients who have recurrent bipolar depression. Licab could also be used in other purposes not mentioned here. Licab warnings Talk to your doctor first before taking Licab if you have Addison's disease, cardiovascular insufficiency, renal insufficiency, and untreated hypothyroidism. Elderly are known to be more sensitive to the drug. For this reason, they might need lesser dose than young adults might. Talk to your doctor about this. It is not advisable to give or use Licab as a treatment to children or adolescents. Talk to your doctor first before taking this medication. Before taking Licab, inform your doctor if you have infectious disease such as influenza, colds, gastroenteritis and urinary infections. This medicine is known to cause harm to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor first before talking Licab if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during the treatment. This drug is known to pass into breast milk. Make sure that you have a normal diet and fluid intake to maintain a stable electrolyte balance, especially if you are in a place with hot temperature. Licab dosage You may obtain the amount and frequency of taking Licab from your doctor. Follow the exact dose given by your doctor. The dose will vary from person to person. Licab overdose In case you suspect an overdose with Licab, stop taking it and look for emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately. Licab missed dose In case you miss a dose of Licab, contact your doctor immediately and ask for instructions. Do not take a double dose of the medication unless you are told by your doctor to do otherwise. Licab side effects Some of the side effects of Licab are vertigo, muscle weakness, nausea, mild gastrointestinal effects and dazed feeling. These side effects usually disappear after stabilization. Other side effects such as fine hand tremors, polyuria and mild thirst; weight gain or oedema; hypercalcaemia, hypermagnesaemia and hyperparathyroidism; and skin problems may also occur. Talk to your doctor in the soonest possible time if you experience any of the said side effects. Some of the side effects of the medicine when used in a long-term basis are thyroid function disturbances like goitre, Hypothyroidism and thyrotoxicosis; polyuria or polydipsia, renal function; and memory impairment. Gastrointestinal side effects such as increasing anorexia, diarrhea and vomiting and central nervous system side effect like drowsiness and ataxia, dysarthria, coarse tremor, blurred vision, muscle weakness, lack of co-ordination, tinnitus and muscle twitching may also occur. Stop taking Licab and look for emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the said side effects. Other side effects not mentioned here may also occur. Licab drug reactions Some drugs that may affect Licab are selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, metronidazole, tetracyclines, topiramate, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, ACE inhibitors, thiazide diuretics, spironolactone, frusemide, angiotensin-II receptor antagonists, other drugs that affect electrolyte balance, xanthines, sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride containing products, psyllium or ispaghula husk, urea, mannitol, acetazolamide, neuroleptics, cxalcum channel blockers, carbamazepine or phenytoin, methyldopa, lithium, thioridazine, and iodide. Talk to your doctor first before taking the drug if you are taking any of the said medications. If you are taking any of the said medications, your doctor might not allow you to take Licab, adjust your dose, or require you a special monitoring during the treatment.
