After wounding my arm cycling downhill on the carretera austral in Chile I was first treated by my travel mate using a medical kit brought from europe containing the standard iodide anti-sceptic/disinfectant. Later a doctor on the road did the same thing using idodide too (polividona iodata or some name like that). But the first hospital we visited a few days later used platsul A, saying that iodide is not appropriate. I wonder why the iodide is not appropriate - is it because there was some yellow gunk being produced by the wound ? thanks in advance for enlightenment.. Faz
