The maximum dose can actually be 200mg/day in 4 divided doses. That is
equivalent to a dose of 50mg diazepam in 24 hrs (15mg oxazepam roughly =
4mg diazepam) and would be indicated in extreme anxiety with repeated panic
attack. Its onset of action is very slow compared with other
benzodiazepines and an initial panic episode should be treated with 2-3mg
alprazolam; the oxazepam typically takes two hours to reach any kind of
fuller effect and is relatively short acting for an anxiolytic, hence
dosing at qds rather than tds.
